English Education Empowerment through program Pygmalion-Vanasuma.
The banner of KBG Volunteers has in the past worked on many projects based on various issues, the 9th of April saw the group invest time and support in another area, that being of education. The program Pygmalion-Vanasuma is an innovative idea that materialised into working base for the improvement of English learning in Government Schools. A partnership with ILID-Achalabharathi, experts at forwarding improvement of educational needs in India, brought in an air of opportunity into the program. The program Pygmalion-Vanasuma derives its name from two timeless literary works, by English playwright George Bernard Shaw and Kannada poet D.V.G respectively. The program itself is an inspiration, as it promotes creative learning and innovation amongst students from underprivileged backgrounds.
While the organization Alchalabharthi provides for expertise in the area, our very own group of KBG volunteers provide other required support for the proper implementation of the program. Through 2011-2012 the program aims to work with 15 government schools within the Byatarayanapur Constituency.
The inaugural event saw individuals from different walks of life come together to work towards the motive taken upon by the project. The audience consisted of teachers from various schools and KBG volunteers. After a bite of breakfast at TRIO World School, also the venue for the entire event, the event formally began. Many including corporators within the Byatarayanapur Constituency, and other representatives shared their views on the program and its relevance. An inspiring talk was given by Prof. A.R Mitra on the need for the effective implementation of the Pygmalion-Vanasuma program. Sudha Mitra, chief in charge of the program provided for an interactive learning session wherein the teachers were briefed on what was in store for them through this program. Many questions were asked and all those present concluded to share a common goal, of that to help children learn better.
